CDP/NYC is a practice/lab/training ground for a group of performers and performance makers who are engaged in investigating and integrating mindfulness practices in performance making.
The intention of cdp/nyc is....
to practice committed mindfulness through working alone and together,
to cultivate kinesthetic delight through synchronization of body-mind,
to develop resiliency and enter fearlessly into deep play, without being attached to outcome
....in the field of improvisational dance
Curated by Damaris Webb, the group engages in 12-week sessions, focusing on changing/evolving areas of inquiry relating to the use of contemplative forms as support for holistic performing and performance making. Our practice encourages a rich and resilient culture with diversity of aesthetics, points of entry and the application of inner, outer and secret disciplines. With gentleness, generosity and rigor we return again and again to the present moment.
Inspired by the disciplines and forms of Deep Play, as introduced to them by contemporary dance pioneer, Barbara Dilley (at Naropa University’s MFA Contemporary Performance), the ensemble finds foundation and a common language in the form of Contemplative Dance Practice, expanding from this base to include other forms from her teachings, and adapting/adopting from studies that swim in like-minded streams: Grotowski, The Viewpoints, Body- Mind Centering ©, Developmental Movement Technique(tm), composition, Butoh, and others.
kinesthetic delight
is a felt-sense of body and mind in balance,
a state of grace, effortless, clear and energized
listening inside, and out into infinite space,
alone and together,
we cross over the threshold into dancing
